

Patrick O’Neil Shaeffer, of Indianapolis, departed this life August 7, 2021. He was born February 25, 1926 in Centerville, South Dakota to Henry Shaeffer and Mary O’Mara Shaeffer. He was a cattle buyer for most of his working life, but ended his career managing a department at Community General Hospital is Sterling, Illinois.
Patrick served in the Navy as a medic during both World War II and the Korean Conflict. He graduated from Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska with his Bachelor’s Degree. He was very proud of his Jesuit education.
He was an active member of every Catholic Church he belonged to; most recently St. Matthew of Indianapolis. In previous years he was a member of the Knights of Columbus, his local community theater and a graduate (twice!) of the Dale Carnegie Course. He enjoyed golf and watching various sports, especially his beloved Notre Dame Football.
Patrick is survived by his children: Charlene Shaeffer, Patrick Shaeffer Jr. (LeeAnn Leske), James Shaeffer (Margaret) and Elizabeth (Paul) Wissler; sister in-law Dorothy Finn; 10 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife, Rosalie, and his sister Ann and brothers James and John.
A visitation for Patrick will be held Friday, August 13, 2021 from 10:00 am until the time of the mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am at St. Matthew Catholic Church, 4100 E. 56th St., Indianapolis, IN 46220.
