Obituary of Pearline Rayner
Pearline Elizabeth Rayner, 87, of Indianapolis, passed away on August 5, 2020. Pearline was born in Henderson, Tennessee to Joseph Seafus and Rosie Lee Frye Smith and on June 6, 1933. Pearline attended George Washington Carver High School of Brownsville Tennessee. She aspired to be a nurse but due to family obligations was not able to complete her degree. She worked for many years at I.U. Hospital in dietary. She retired from Kohls Department Store in 2003. Pearline married Robert Henry Rayner on November 1, 1953 in Corinth Mississippi. To this union there were 6 children, 18 grandchildren, 28 great grands and 6 great-great grands. Pearline and her family lived in St. Louis Mo prior relocating to Indianapolis in 1960 where she united with Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church under the late Rev. E.T. Johnson. Pearline was able to fulfill her dreams of nursing, caring for, and helping other during her many years of service in the church nursing ministries. Currently she is a member of Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church, Rev. Kevin Long Pastor. Pearline was a faithful member of the Capital City Fellowship Missionary Baptist Association and its Auxiliaries; The National Baptist Convention of America Nurses Corps Auxuliary; The Indiana Missionary State Church Nurses Auxiliary. She served as corresponding secretary as well as president at the state level at Mount Moriah and Metropolitan. She was also Chairperson for the National Annual Queen Review Pageant. Pearline was honored to represent her state and church as a Queen upon more than one occasion . The monies raised from the Queen’s Pageant were used to support Missions endeavors in Haiti. Pearline had a large family whom she enjoyed spending time with. She was blessed to be able to join some of her grands and great-grands in Disney. She enjoyed cooking everyone’s favorite dish or dessert. Her favorite scripture was the 23rd Psalms and was partial to the hymn. “Through it All”. We thank God for the time she spent with us but she will be truly missed. Pearline is preceded in death by her parents Rosie and Joe; 4 sisters Mary Sue Pearson, Geraldine Smith, Maxine Ingram and Jenny Mae Reed; 4 brothers Leroy, Joe Willie, Henry and Charley Smith; 2 sons Clarence and George; 1 daughter. Joyce Gilbert. Pearline leaves to cherish her memory: husband of 66 Robert Rayner, daughters Annie Sanders (Donald), Debra Gillard, Cynthia Edmond ( James), sons Robert Rayner Jr ( Lynetta) Marvin Rayner and Anthony Jones, sisters June Nell Calvert and Mable Pettigrew, and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family. Visitation will be Saturday August 15, 2020 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at God’s Grace Community Church 9425 E. 30th St, Indianapolis, In 46229. Funeral services will be held 12:00 p.m. till 2:00 p.m. Saturday August 15, 2020 at God’s Grace Community Church. Rev/ Kevin Long of Metropolitan Mission Baptist Church will be Officiating. Committal and internment will follow at Crown Hill Cemetery. Arrangements are by Crown Hill Funeral Home & Cemetery.
