Price was the beloved son of the late Price Petty, Jr. and Barbara Gatlin Petty. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, C. Denise Petty, with whom he shared 36 years of marriage. Together they built a life grounded in love, strength, and quiet resilience.
A proud veteran, Price served honorably in the United States Navy from 1972 to 1978. Through the GI Bill, he pursued his education at Ivy Tech Community College, where he met Denise—the love of his life and mother of his three children.
He is survived by his children: Lauren Ashley Petty Shaifer, Jordan Barbara Petty, Patrick Price Petty, Joseph Grissom, and Allison Gabriel. Price was a solid and guiding presence to many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. He was also the cherished brother of Gwendolyn Diane Palmer, Cheryl Medina, Victoria Petty Brooks, Sandra Webster, Patricia Tinsley, and the late Beverly Graves.
Price had a curious mind and a generous spirit. His passions included coin collecting, ancient history, science, astronomy, spirituality, cooking, chess, and cards—especially his beloved backgammon. He found peace in nature, often spending time in his yard or simply relaxing outdoors.
A man of few words but profound impact, Price was known for his patience, steadiness, and unwavering presence. He embodied kindness, sacrifice, and selflessness. His love of music—particularly jazz, soul, and R&B—was just one reflection of his soulful nature.
Above all, he will be remembered as a kind and loving father, a loyal friend, a steadfast brother, and the calm, enduring foundation of his family. His life is a testament to redemption, quiet strength, and unwavering commitment. He will be missed deeply and cherished always.
A visitation for Price will be held Saturday, May 31, 2025 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Crown Hill Funeral Home & Cemetery, 700 W. 38th St., Indianapolis, Indiana 46208.
