Arkansas on July 20, 1927. He went to be with the Lord on March 6, 2015.
REV. MURRAY attended grade school but do to family circumstances had to drop
out at 8th grade. His family moved to Indianapolis during his early years. On April 2,
1948 he married Osilee Milton. They were blessed with 13 children.
REV. MURRAY accepted Christ in his younger years in Arkansas. He accepted the
calling to the Ministry and was ordained in 1967. He was Associate Minister at
Mount Calvary Baptist Church under Rev. F. H. Moore. He was a member of the
Seven Gospel Ministers and he ministered in Nursing Homes throughout
Indianapolis. Rev. Murray joined Carter Memorial Baptist Church under the
direction of Rev. Charles Shobe, later Rev. Victor Mckee, and presently Rev. Kelvin
Griffin, Sr.
REV. MURRAY served 3 years in the Army at the end of WW II during peace time.
Rev. Murray was employed at Navistar. He was a truck driver and in his later years
performed janitorial services. He retired from Navistar on July 1, 1992.
REV. MURRAY grew up on a farm in Arkansas where he picked cotton as a young
boy. He enjoyed telling stories of his life growing up which included stories about his
dog, Shanghi and his family cat, Kitty Mae who â€?"chewed gum!â€, fishing, barbecuing
and looking at sitcoms-laughing loud and boisterously! And of course reading his
bible.
He was an early riser and never was late for any appointment. No
remembrance of him EVER taking a day off work. He took the trip of his life time in
1995 when he traveled to Israel and was baptized in the Jordon River, something he
treasured dearly. Rev. Murray was known to give sermonettes, when he got up to
preach he would say "Jesus said whatever you are going to do, do quickly.†(John
13:27) meaning he wasn’t going to keep you long! He was accustomed to preaching
7 minutes allotted by Seven Gospel Ministry. Some of his favorite sayings were:
â€?"Come now while the blood is running warm through your veinsâ€, and â€?"Everyday is a
day of thanksgivingâ€, â€?"God is an awesome God†and â€?"It is not about your feelingsâ€
meaning God does not operate in our emotions but in our spirit.
REV. MURRAY was preceded in death by his parents, Mack Murry and Oleavia
Murry; his wife, Osilee; eldest daughter, Judy Roberts; and youngest daughter,
Shannon Elise Murray; and a son-in-law, Michael Adair.
