Richard “Dick” Allen Cantin, 89, passed away peacefully on November 6, 2025. Born in Waterbury, Connecticut, on February 25, 1936, Dick was the son of Romeo and Eva (Ouimet) Cantin. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Mary (Laudick) Cantin; his parents; and his sisters Marjorie (Ralph) Meyer and Elaine (Charles/“Bud”) Smith.
Dick is survived by his children, Michael (Christine) Cantin and Barbara (Will) Carroll; his sister, Eileen Cantin; and his in-laws, Barbara Laudick, Richard (Shirley) Laudick and Bud Smith. He will also be fondly remembered by numerous nieces and nephews.
Dick was a proud graduate of Cathedral High School and Indiana University. Dick earned his degree in 1959 and began a long and successful career with Merchants National Bank. Over the years, he held various leadership roles throughout the bank, while specializing in commercial lending, and ultimately achieved the position of Senior Executive Vice President. While pursuing his career, Dick was fortunate to meet Mary through friends. They committed to a lifetime of love, partnership, and family in 1964.
Dick believed strongly in giving back to his community, volunteering for and supporting numerous charities. He was also a long-time member of the Junto Social Club and a devoted parishioner of St. Pius X Catholic Church, prior to moving to Marquette Manor and attending mass at its chapel.
Fulfilling his lifelong goal of early retirement, Dick and Mary began a joyful new chapter in 1991, splitting their time between Indianapolis and Bonita Springs, and later Lakewood Ranch, Florida. The sunshine allowed Dick to spend more time on the golf course, a pastime he deeply enjoyed. Together, he and Mary also traveled abroad and cherished their many adventures. Above all, the greatest joy of his retirement years was spending quality time with his beloved Mary.
Dick will be remembered for his kindness, integrity, quick wit, and devotion to family.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, November 13, 2025 at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 7200 Sarto Dr., Indianapolis, IN 46240. Friends and family may gather from 10:00 AM until the time of Mass. Entombment will be in Our Lady of Peace Cemetery.
