Mr. Clapp was a Middle School Science Teacher at Mascenic Regional High School in New Hampshire from 1969-1971.  He took teaching seriously and he did his best to ensure that all of the children were learning the subject.  He was also Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 26 for a year.  He was often seen doing long distance runs in town and he sponsored local cross-country races.   He was a true professional.    

Sorry to hear of the passing of Mr. Clapp. He was my high school science teacher. A number of times, Mr. Clapp would bring a small group of students backpacking in the White Mountains of NH. He was very kind person and a good teacher. His passing is a loss for all who knew him.

Mr. Clapp was a great guy that took many of us school students on White Mountain hiking trips. He as a young man was a Hut Master at the AMC huts and passed on his love of the mountains to more than a few of us from Mascenic High School. I recall those hikes when I visit the mountains, great memories!

Sad to hear this.  Thoughts, prayers and condolences to his family and friends.  It was always such a great pick-me-up to see him on the race course.  He will be missed.

I’m fortunate to have shared high fives, stories and volunteer lunches with this amazing 500 Festival Volunteer. Richard will be missed by many! 

Mr. Clapp volunteered at several masters' swim meets where I had the opportunity to chat with him. He loved to describe attending the Summer Olympics in Rome in 1960, where he watched Wilma Rudolph win three gold medals. Mr. Clapp was very personable and joyful. He will be missed!

Richard had a big heart & a love for volunteering.  He was an open book of knowledge.  I volunteered with him at a lot of events over the 8 years I volunteered with Indianapolis Ambassadors.  He will be missed.

Richard was an avid volunteer and a voracious learner. I volunteered with him often through Indianapolis Ambassadors. He was so fun to talk with at meetings and volunteer events. I hadn’t seen him in several years, but will miss learning from (and being goofy with) him.  Condolences to his family. 

Richard was very active in Indianapolis Ambassadors, a local volunteer group.  Sarah Fisher posted this undated picture today on Facebook of Richard receiving an award for his volunteerism with the organization.


I met Richard while I was doing a presentation for Oasis and he was in the audience. We spent quite a while talking after the meeting and discovered that I knew his niece, Cindy. I worked for the American Diabetes Association and Cindy helped with some of the programs I conducted. After I left ADA and started working for the City of Carmel, I reconnected with Richard because I coordinated volunteers for Carmel Christkindlmarkt and he was a frequent volunteer. He never complained about the cold weather! We had so many interesting conversations. I will miss him dearly. My prayers are with his family. 

On behalf of the Indianapolis Civil War Round Table, please accept our sincere sympathy and condolences. Richard was a member of our organization for many years. I did not get to know him, joining myself only a few years ago. But his membership expresses his interest in history, and perhaps is evidenced by his known "story telling".
