Richard Lee Gaines

Richard Lee Gaines, age 74, of Indianapolis, Indiana passed away on Monday, August 16, 2021. Richard was born November 3, 1946 in Indianapolis to the late Charles and Thelma (Flack) Gaines Johnson. He was a US Army Vietnam War Veteran serving as a Medic in Vung Tau. He retired from Epson America where he was a Warehouse Auditor. He loved being outside and was a passionate animal lover. He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, Timothy Lee Gaines; and several aunts and uncles. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Darlena Sue (Smith) Gaines; his daughter, Nicole "Nikki" Black and her husband Nathan; grandchildren, Ethan, Daniel and Allison Black; siblings, James, John and Steven Gaines, Debbie Smith, Jane Thompson and Gary Gaines; and his dog, Doogie. A Celebration of Richard's Life will be held on Saturday, September 4, 2021 at 2:00 PM at Feeney-Hornak Shadeland Mortuary, 1307 North Shadeland Ave., Indianapolis, Indiana. Memorial Visitation will be from Noon until the service time. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery with Military Rites.
