Robert (Bob) Eugene Haag, 89, of Indianapolis, passed away November 27, 2022. He was born October 22, 1933, in Washington, Indiana to the late Firman and Janeth (Hellums) Haag. He graduated from Washington Catholic High School and served in the U.S. Navy. Bob married Barbara (Bobbie) C. Wilz, also from Washington, in 1957.
Bob retired from AT&T (formerly Western Electric/Indiana Bell) as a Senior Service Technician. He was a member of St. Pius Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, local Communications Workers of American union (CWA), and Telephone Pioneers of America. After retirement, Bob volunteered for the Indianapolis Archdiocese with the Refugee Resettlement Program which was an important and meaningful endeavor for him.
As a Navy man, sailing and swimming were passions for Bob. One of his most precious memories was helping crew on a Windjammer Cruise. He also enjoyed golf and playing bocce with his brothers, nieces and nephews, and children. He was known to have played bocce inside his home a time or two! Bob was an engaged and fun Papaw who adored his grandchildren. He had a soft spot in his heart for food-insecure children and frequently donated to local food pantries.
Survivors include his children, Heather (Michael) Timmons, Eric Haag, Corinne Haag, and Danny Haag; grandchildren, Emily Timmons, Lucy Timmons, Wendy Polley, Kevin Timmons, Samantha Goodman, Lily Haag, Phillip Haag, and Beckett Gebo; three great grandchildren; and sister, Doris Madden. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of almost 46 years, Bobbie, in 2003, his parents, and 10 brothers and sisters. Bob was also preceded in death by his companion later in life, Joyce Byllesby, in 2020.
Visitation for Bob will be held on Friday, December 2, 2022, from 4-7 PM (with a Rosary service beginning at 6:30 PM) at Feeney Hornak – Keystone Mortuary, 2126 E. 71st Street, Indianapolis, Indiana. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, December 3, 2022, at 11:00 AM at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 7200 Sarto Drive, Indianapolis, Indiana. Entombment with military honors to follow at Our Lady of Peace Cemetery.
