

Robert Kern Obituary Robert Harlan Kern (90) slipped the surly bonds of earth to join Marjorie, his bride of 65 years, in heaven. Born July 15 1925 in Indianapolis, he was the son of the late Harlan Hugh Kern and Mary Blanche (Phillips) Kern. He is survived by his four children, David (Leesa) Kern of Fort Wayne IN., Daniel Kern of North Carolina, Elaine Goode of Indianapolis, and Maureen Pettypool of Fishers, IN. Also surviving are his 11 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. He was a lifelong member of Central Christian Church, and spent most of his career as a risk management and loss prevention engineer in the commercial insurance industry. He graduated from Arsenal Technical High School with an Aircraft Engine Mechanics Certificate and diploma. He joined the U.S. Navy during WWII and served on the USS Massachusetts Battleship in the pacific theater as an electrician and fireman 1st class. He studied Engineering at IUPUI. During his career he was a Certified Safety Professional, member of the American Society of Safety Engineers, member of the Honorable Order of the Blue Goose International- Indiana Pond. His greatest joy was helping others, starting with his family, and spending time at the family cottage in Grand Haven Michigan.
