

Robert was proudly born and raised in Barry, Illinois to the late Marion and Ruth Koeller. He is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Marlene; their three children Kristin (Mark) Sneider, Kathy Syrus, and Robert (Alina) Koeller, Jr. Grandchildren Alexander (Mary) Sneider, Davis (Taylor St. Germain) Sneider, Megan Sneider, William (Kajsa) Syrus, Samuel Syrus, Joseph Syrus, Austin (Madalyn) Collins, Olivia Collins and great granddaughters Sadie Sneider, Zoey and Audrey Collins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Marion and Ruth Koeller and by his sister, Barbara Kramer.
Robert graduated with a B.A. in Political Science and History from MacMurray College in Jacksonville, Illinois in 1962. He received his J.D. from Vanderbilt University in 1965.
Robert devoted his life to helping others. This made him the best attorney; first for National Honest Acceptance Corp and Herff Jones and then in private practice for fifty years. He had many long-time clients that remained friends until his death. Robert belonged to the Indiana State Bar Association, the Indianapolis Bar Association, the American Revolution Institution, the Society of the Cincinnati, the American Civil War Society, the Sons of History, the Sons of the American Revolution, The Revolutionary War Forum, the Philadelphia Association, the Heritage Foundation, the Alexander Hamilton Society, Direct Lineage of Mayflower Passengers and the Mayflower Society.
Robert prided himself on his integrity and putting his family first. He loved playing tennis and golf; was a walking music encyclopedia; knew all there was to know about American History; told the best stories and was devoted to all he called friend.
Robert was a member of St. Luke’s Methodist Church for over 40 years and more recently found a home at Geist Christian Church.
Visitation will be held Saturday, March 28, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. with the memorial service at 2:30 p.m. at Geist Christian Church, 8550 Mud Creek Rd, Indianapolis, Indiana.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Robert’s memory to Geist Christian Church or to the Lawrence Township Schools Foundation.
