

He was born in Trezevant, TN on March 23, 1944, to Lelar Mae Roper and Louis Baily Adkisson. Robert was raised by Lelar and Curtis Atkisson in Gary, Indiana.
He was preceded in death by his Mother, Lelar M. Atkisson, Curtis L Atkisson and Louis Baily Adkisson, his brothers Ellis Atkisson, Joseph Adkisson and a sister Peggy Howard.
Robert accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age. He graduated from Tolleston High School in 1963 Gary, IN. He loved to play football and run track. Robert worked in the insurance industry and services and retired from Crown Hill Funeral Home as a Family Service Counselor.
Robert was a member of the Tillman H. Harpole American Legion Post 249. He enjoyed playing cards and eating tasty food. Robert also gave to the Veteran Foundation for Wounded Soldiers.
He was drafted into the Army to fight in the Vietnam war. He served his country and received a honorable discharge.
Robert leaves to cherish his memories his children: Jeanine Roper, Amber BeeBe and Robert L. Roper, Jr. Three grandchildren, Avery, Adrianna, and Jacob Roper. Sisters, Judy (John) Truttling Jr., Jane (Harold) Williams, Felice Rena Lewis, Diane Cargile, Belinda Adkisson and Margie Murray. Brothers, Steven L. (Teri) Atkisson and Lawrence E. Atkisson and Special niece Joyce E. David and an Aunt Evelyn Johnson and Special friends, Diana Adams, Rev. Teddy Ford, Donald Moore, Adolphus Luckett and Eric (Big E) Anderson. Host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Robert was loved by so many.
A visitation for Robert will be held Sunday, July 16, 2023, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Crown Hill Funeral Home & Cemetery, 700 W. 38th St., Indianapolis, Indiana 46208, followed by a celebration of life at 3:00 PM.
