Robert was born in Montgomery, Alabama to Edward and Elnora (Rivers) Scott on August 9, 1931. After moving to Indianapolis as a youth, he later graduated from Crispus Attucks High School. In addition to being a good student, he also excelled in basketball and baseball, earning Varsity Letters in both sports.
Robert accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized in the Methodist Church. He attended Eastside Baptist Church with his wife and daughters for the majority of his adult life.
Robert joined the United States Air Force on August 30, 1951. He served four years and received a commendation medal awarded for meritorious service. Robert also earned his Associates Degree while serving in the Air Force. In the Air Force, Robert was educated in the field of electronics. Education was important to Robert and both of his daughters have earned multiple degrees. His legacy continues.
Robert married the love of his life, Nancy Bowman, on December 24, 1951. Ironically, Robert assisted with the Attucks Girls’ Basketball team. It was clear that he had a special interest in his favorite player, Nancy.
Upon obtaining an honorable discharge from the Air Force, Robert became an entrepreneur, opening up a television and radio repair shop. Later, he was employed by the United States Postal Service, working his way up to Special Delivery Supervisor and then Manager of Brightwood Station. He was often called “Bob” or “Scotty” by his co-workers and friends. “Scotty” was passionate about baseball and loved to bowl. One of his many enjoyable achievements was bowling a perfect “300” game. All of Robert’s grandchildren are athletes. He loved watching them play sports and participate in a variety of activities.

Robert had the gift of “gab,” especially when it came to talking about sports. He also was a captivating storyteller.
Unable to remain idle for long when retired, he re-entered the workforce at TBA & Oil Warehouse. While working at TBA, Robert was involved in a horrific vehicular accident, which appeared on local television, whereby he was life-lined to a local hospital. Although the hospital staff did not think he was going to make it, Robert beat the odds and God proved it was not his time to go. Through the grace of God, Robert was granted 15 additional years, living to the age of 90 and enjoying his marriage of 70 years to Nancy.
“Rob,” as lovingly called by Nancy, was a hard worker and protector. He was a family man who always put his family first, even in his last hours. Robert was the glue that held his family together. He was a fighter, who continuously fought without a complaint. His legacy will continue to grow.
