

He grew up in Indianapolis, attending IPS 45 and 66. He graduated from IPS 66 in 1947, going onto Shortridge High School from 1947-1951, graduating in 1951. He was awarded the Merle Sidener Award and was also the Annual Sports Editor. Athletically, he competed in Football and Track and earned a Varsity Letter in Track.
From 1951-1956, Robert attended Indiana University, where he majored in Journalism and Government. He is also a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity. At IU, he was regularly active with The Indiana Daily Student as Sports Editor and the Arbutus, the University Yearbook.
After graduation, he worked as a reporter and feature writer for The Fort Wayne News Sentinel. He entered The United States Air Force in April 1956, serving in San Antonio, TX; Moultrie, GA; Cheyenne, WY; and Isafurdur, Iceland. While in Iceland, he was stationed at a remote and isolated radar site for 1 year and then returned to James Connally Air Force Base, in Waco, TX. He was discharged from the United States Air Force in April of 1959.
After his military service, Robert returned to Indianapolis and joined the staff of TV News, a television listing magazine. While there, he became a feature writer and editor. He was employed with the magazine for 40 years until his retirement in 1999. Still wanting to stay busy, his love for nature and birds, gained him part-time employment at Wild Birds Unlimited, on the northside of Indianapolis. Working there for the last 20 years, he had enthusiastic respect and love for all his co-workers and customers. He then retired for a second time in August 2019.
Robert married the love of his life, Carol Joan Kiewitt, on Saturday, June 15, 1963. They have two children, Rebecca Scott Ingle (Greg) and David Eric Scott (Whitney), and 8 beautiful grandchildren: Amanda, Jacob and Luke Marsh, Jack (Emily) and Leanne Scott, and Dustin and Kaelin (Ingle) Limeberry. Carol and Bob were highly active in various PTO’s of their children’s schools and were pioneering supporters of Carmel’s Parent Anti-Drug Program. Bob also served as a baseball coach in the Carmel Babe Ruth program. Family was the central focus of Bob’s life. He also enjoyed reading, bicycling, and gardening.
