He was born in Louisville, KY and graduated from the Kentucky Military Institute and Purdue University with a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering- meeting Suzie at Purdue through fraternity and sorority functions. He was a Purdue cheerleader, and whose family always cheered on the Boilermakers- with Suzie and Ron attending multiple sports events and visiting the Rose Bowl in 2001 and following Drew Brees to Pasadena, CA. Always the traveler and had a great companion in Suzie...through work, RV camping, traveling both the United States and abroad. Taking his passion of photography with him and producing a collection of his travels in architecture, landscapes and family. He loved traveling with his family, and his family was likewise very enriched by these experiences.
Ron is reunited with his lost loved ones in heaven, his father, Rolland Lewis Fifer Sr., his mother "Cindy", and his loving wife of over 50 years, Suzie. He is survived by his two daughters, Karen Fifer Giffel and her husband, Gary Allen Giffel, and Kristen Lee Fifer and her husband Jody Ferguson. He was an adoring grandfather to Alexander Bret Giffel, who will miss his golfing buddy and "Poppy" with all his heart.
In his later years after Suzie passed, he moved to back to Baton Rouge from South Carolina and had many years of enjoyment- playing cards, puzzle masterpieces and building models- even re-learning the piano (which he purposely took lessons with both Kris and Karen) , and loved keeping up with his buddies and bowling. Ron lived life to the fullest, and we will treasure and cherish his memory in his amazing works of artistry through photography.
