Ronald Lee Greene

DEACON RONALD LEE GREENE was born on September 29, 1942, in Washington, D.C., the ninth of ten children born to the union of Lawrence Lorenzo Greene and Lillian Lewis Greene. In 1954, the Greene family relocated to Indianapolis, Indiana, establishing roots that would shape his life for decades to come.

RONALD developed a strong work ethic and a servant's heart early in life. As a young man in high school, he stayed busy cutting neighborhood lawns, assisting his teachers throughout the summer months, and working at a local drugstore serving hot dogs and soda. He received his formal education in the Indianapolis public school system, attending the historic Crispus Attucks High School and proudly graduating with the Class of 1961.

Following high school, Ronald entered the workforce at the Finance Center from 1962 to 1964. In 1964, answered the call of duty to serve his country when he was drafted into the United States Army. He served courageously during the Vietnam War before receiving his Honorable Discharge in 1966.

Upon returning home, Ronald embarked on a distinguished 34-year career with the Chrysler Corporation at the Kokomo plant, beginning in 1967.

Beyond his dedicated service on the job, he was a gifted athlete and an inspiring leader. He played on and coached numerous Chrysler basketball leagues and teams, proudly earning more than twenty championship trophies throughout his playing years. He retired from Chrysler in 2001.

Retirement marked the beginning of a vibrant new chapter. Fueled by a lifelong passion for fine automobiles, Ronald transported vehicles across the state for Odessa for two years. He also spent four years delivering essential medical supplies throughout the city with Aspen Medical Supply. An avid tennis player, he joined the Indianapolis Racquet Club in 2011, serving there until 2025. Over the years, Ronald traveled across the country competing in numerous tennis tournaments, always encouraged by the cheers and unwavering support of his wife.

DEACON Greene's spiritual journey foundation of his life. He accepted Christ as his personal Savior in 1967 and received the gift of the Holy Ghost in 1989. He initially united with 22nd Street Church of God in Christ under the leadership of the late Superintendent Pastor Jessie Brown. In 1990, he transitioned his fellowship to Prince of Peace COGIC under the leadership of the late Superintendent Pastor James Harris, where he faithfully served as a Deacon. Blessed with a melodious singing voice and a heart for worship, Deacon Greene shared his gift of music across the nation, traveling and singing with the Jordan Aires for more than fifteen years.

On April 23, 1994, Ronald was united in holy matrimony to Dorothy Powell, the love of his life. Together, they shared a beautiful partnership filled with devotion, travel, and joy. Ronald was a consummate family man who found his greatest happiness in gathering loved ones together, especially when hosting family cookouts.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence Lorenzo Greene and Lillian Lewis Greene; and his siblings, Ruth Dawson, June Lambert, Donald Greene, Ralph Lynwood Greene, Lawrence Alfred Greene, and Arthur Frederick Greene. He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife, Dorothy A. Greene; his children, Shari (Lawrence) Moore, Kimberly Solomon, Ron Greene, Ashiya Oni, Saundra (George) Gilbert, Norvie Jr. (Shatia) Beasley, Dorian "LaTrease" Cotton, and Rashida Greene; his siblings, Everett Francis Greene, Phyllis Lillian (Sonny) Wyatt, and Rodney Lamont Greene; along with a host of beloved grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family, church family, and dear friends.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 15, 2006 beginning at 9am. Followed by a Celebration of Life service, 11am. Located in the Memorial Chapel at Crown Hill Funeral Home, 700 West 38th Street, Indianapolis, IN, 46208.
