Ronald Kirby, the youngest of three children was born on August 7, 1935. He is preceded in death by his parents Paul Harry Richmond and Della Smith Richmond and sister, Barbara Jean Richmond Barnes all of Indianapolis, Indiana. When Ronald was born the family received numerous congratulatory letters and one special letter from the late Marcus C. Stewart, Editor, of the Indianapolis Recorder.
He attended the public schools of Indianapolis attending School #26 and graduated from Cripus Attucks High School in 1953. While in school, Ronald was named to the honor roll and excelled in sports, especially in the area of track and field. He won numerous awards, trophies, and First Place Blue Ribbons in the Arsenal Technical, Manual, and Shortridge track meets. Before his dream of going to the Olympics could be realized, he enlisted in the Air Force, where he served his country and the people of the United States.
Ronald confessed his faith and accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age.
Ronald lived in Champagne, Illinois for a period of time before moving back to Indianapolis to be closer to his family. Ronald, spent the majority of his life committed to his loving companion, Doris Dowdy, which preceded him in death. He worked for the Conrail Railroad and retired after 34 years of service. He was instrumental and fought for better rights for the Conrail Railroad employees. He received letters in 1989 from the late Richard G. Lugar, and Dan Coats both were United States Senators, thanking him for his countless hours, dedication, and service to the employees of Conrail Railroad.
Ronald was an avid fisherman and loved to take long fishing trips with his dad and uncles. He rode a motorcycle and belonged to a Harley Davidson riding club that took him all over the state of Indiana.
God saw that he was getting tired; a cure was not to be so He put His arms around him and whispered, "Come with Me." With tearful eyes, we watched him suffer, and saw him fade away. Although we loved him dearly, we could not make him stay. A golden heart stopped beating, hard working hands to rest. God broke our hearts to prove to us He only takes "the best".
