Ronald E. Taylor was born on May 6, 1948, in Indianapolis, Indiana, to Mary (Garvin) Taylor and Charles Taylor Sr. He was the third of six children, growing up in a close-knit family where faith, hard work, and love were foundational values. From an early age, Ronald displayed a quiet strength, a warm spirit, and a natural ability to connect with others.
Ronald was educated in the Indianapolis Public Schools and proudly graduated from Crispus Attucks High School in 1966. His work ethic was evident early in life. After high school, he began working at Hillcrest Country Club, where he learned the value of dedication and service. He later joined the United States Postal Service, faithfully serving the community before transitioning to General Motors at Allison Transmission in 1973. There, he worked diligently for many years until his well-earned retirement. Ronald took great pride in providing for his family and believed deeply in the dignity of honest work.
At the tender age of ten, Ronald professed his love for Christ, a decision that shaped the course of his life. He was baptized at Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church in Indianapolis, where his faith was nurtured and strengthened. Ronald was an active and devoted member of the church community. He sang joyfully in the choir and faithfully served as an assistant deacon, always willing to lend a helping hand wherever needed. His faith was not just something he spoke about, it was something he lived daily through his kindness, humility, and service to others.
Ronald was also a proud and active member of Prince Hall Freemasonry for over 30 years. He valued the brotherhood, fellowship, and service that came with his membership. One of his favorite pastimes was gathering with his Lodge brothers at Fire Station #1, sharing stories, laughter, and camaraderie. Those relationships meant a great deal to him.
A man of many interests, Ronald truly enjoyed life. He loved barbequing and cooking for his family and friends, finding joy in bringing people together around good food and warm conversation. He enjoyed exercising, riding his mountain bike, attending outdoor concerts, shooting pool, and bowling. He also cherished the thrill and peace of deep-sea fishing. Whether on land or sea, Ronald found joy in the simple pleasures of life. More than anything, he was concerned about the well-being of others and consistently put their needs before his own. His unselfish nature and generous heart left a lasting impression on everyone he encountered.
Above all, Ronald was a devoted family man. He was a loving son, father, brother, uncle, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. His presence was steady, his love was genuine, and his guidance was invaluable. He instilled strength, faith, and perseverance in his children and grandchildren, leading by example in both word and deed. His family was his pride and joy, and he treasured every moment spent with them.
Ronald departed this life on February 19, 2026, at the age of 77. Though our hearts are heavy, we rejoice in knowing that his life was well-lived and that his legacy of love, faith, and integrity will continue through the generations that follow him. He was preceded in death by his grandparents James and Mattie Garvin, beloved parents, Charles and Mary Taylor Sr.; two aunts, Geneva Garvin Floyd and Dora Marie Garvin Blow; and two uncles, William Garvin and Eugene Garvin.
He leaves to cherish his precious memory: two devoted and loving daughters, Janekka Taylor and Latosha Lewis; bonus daughter, Latonya Wright; three grandsons, Raymond Smith, Adrian Lewis Jr., and Bryce Parker; two granddaughters, Alexus Taylor and Jae’La Redmon; and one great-grandson Terrell Smith. He is also survived by his siblings: Iris Ackels, Peggy Taylor, Roger Taylor, Charles Taylor, and Jerome Taylor; along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will forever hold him in their hearts.
Ronald’s life was a testament to faith, perseverance, brotherhood, and unconditional love. He will be deeply missed, but his spirit, his lessons, and his love will remain with us always.
