Ronnel Joe Spangler, age 79, of Greenwood, Indiana passed away peacefully on Monday, July 4, 2022. He was born February 21, 1943 in Beech Grove, Indiana to the late Margaret (Williamson) Spangler and Luther Spangler. Ron graduated from Franklin Central High School in 1961 and went to Purdue University for one year. He then came home to marry his high school sweetheart, Shirley Smith, on October 12, 1963 and have celebrated almost 60 anniversaries together. They have two children, Lisa and Todd, who were taught invaluable life lessons. He led by example, teaching them a good work ethic and integrity in which he conducted his business. He was a proud grandpa to five grandchildren who all held a special place in his heart and brought him joy. Ron began his career as a brick layer and then started his own business as a custom home builder. He retired from Carter-Lee Lumber as a building material salesperson. Ron was an avid fisherman and golfer and played as often as he could both here in Indiana and Florida. They had a winter home in The Villages, FL for fourteen years, which was Ron's happy place. The last few years have been increasingly difficult as Ron's Alzheimer's progressed. He had the love of his family and the grace of God to help get him through it all.
Ron is survived by his wife, Shirley (Smith) Spangler; children, Lisa Collins and Todd Spangler (Lorna Waterford); sister, Lois Wagner (Gib); grandchildren, Nathan Collins, Brenna Collins, Zayne Spangler, Jaidyn Spangler, and Vance Spangler; and many nieces and nephews.
