Obituary of Rosa Marie McCann
Rosa Marie (Barmore) McCann was born on January 26, 1943, in Henderson, Tennessee, the only child born to the union of Mary Ann (Barmore) Camp and Odell Green. Raised in Indianapolis, IN, she attended Indianapolis Public Schools. Rosa graduated from Crispus Attucks High School in 1961, attended Butler University Jordan School of Music in 1976, and received a certificate in Word Processing form Arlington High School in 1984. Rosa married John Dewey McCann December 12, 1965. They had two sons, Darrell D. and Eric L. McCann. Rosa professed a hope in Christ at an early age and was a member of Bethel A.M.E. Church until her death. She was a strong and faithful Christian. She loved her church. Playing the piano, writing, learning and singing hymns, was her passion. She wrote the words to hymns on every scrap piece of paper she could find so she could learn the words, sing, and share her beautiful God gifted voice with everyone. She was a member of the traveling gospel group “Music for the Soul” for many years. She was a member of the Bethel A.M.E. Choir and served as their Director of their Children’s Youth Choir. Rosa also enjoyed fishing, hanging out & traveling with friends, cowboy movies, bowling, knitting, crocheting, watching Jeopardy and crossword puzzles. Rosa was a loving mother, granny, cousin, niece and best friend anyone could ever ask for who will be missed dearly. Rosa was employed at Wishard Hospital/Sunnyside Sanitarium from 1962-1964, Sonoco Products, as a Lab Technician and Production Worker from 1967-1988, Nuclear Measurements Corporation, as a Stock Room Clerk from 1988-1990, Manutek, Inc., as an Assembler from 1990-1991, and Formica Samples as a Receptionist and Courter CO. until her retirement in 2001. Those left to cherish Rosa’s memory include her sons, Darrell (Robin) McCann and Eric (Renita) McCann; grandchildren, Leondre Haynes, Corey Lyles-McCann, Nikita (Johnson) Leonard, Dermita Johnson, Kevin (Lauren) McCann, Steven (Chloe) McCann and Darius McCann; great grandchildren, Camaya Lyles, Journei Anderson, Gia Haynes, DeAndre Leonard, Nevaeh Leonard, Geona Haynes, Lyric McCann, Genesis Haynes, Nora McCann, Grace Haynes and Germany Haynes; cousin, Rudy Jackson; in-laws, a host of other family and countless friends.
