At the young age of 15, he found himself being pursued by scouts for the Indianapolis Indians but declined it due to their unwillingness to recruit his friend also. In his younger years, he was an avid bowler and was a phenomenal softball/baseball player.
Ross heard the call to action early in his life, choosing to serve his country in the United States Marine Corps. Serving over 20 years, including deployment during the Korean War, Ross retired as a Master Sergeant. After his time in the military, Ross chose a second career in Mortgage banking, helping people secure their dream homes. He was dedicated to serving and helping others.
Early in life, he was blessed with 5 children by their mother, Mary. Later, he married Marjorie and gained 3 bonus children, whom he loved and cared for dearly. He and Marjorie became “snowbirds” living in Florida from October to April and back to Indianapolis when it was warmer. He adored their dog, Spike and cat, Andy, who traveled with them when they would go camping in their RV or to their Florida home. They loved nature and enjoyed going on picnics and just enjoyed sitting on the screened in porch watching the squirrels and hummingbirds.
Along with his parents, Ross is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Marjorie; son, John “Andy,” Parson and stepson, Dave Brown (Kathleen); and siblings: Robert “Bob” Parson, Carol Hunter, Lawrence Parson, Rosalie Meadows, Kenneth “Shorty” Parson, and Albert “Butch” Parson.
He is survived by children: Lawrence Parson (Juliana), Catherine Buehler, Joseph Parson (Lesa), Michelle Watson (Randy); stepchildren, Kathy Cuppy (Dave) and Karen Butler; siblings: Marilyn Barding, Wilma Noble, Jerry Parson, and William “Rusty” Parson and numerous grandchildren, step grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a memorial contribution to your local humane society or Wounded Warrior Project.
A Graveside Service with military honors to honor Ross will be held on Monday, November 4, 2024 at 2:30pm.
