Russell "Gene" Eugene Blackledge, age 95, of Indianapolis, Indiana passed away on Monday, January 15, 2024. Russell was born June 29, 1928 in Shelbyville, Indiana the son of the late Fred and Pauline Blackledge.
Gene served in the U.S. Army from 1945-1951. Gene worked as a sorter for the U.S. Postal Service.
Gene is survived by his children; Saundra Kay Howard of Indiana, Sherron Sue Leonard and her husband Thomas of The Villages, Florida and daughter-in-law; Christine Howard of Clermont, Florida, 8 grandchildren; Yvette Grace, Yvonne Grace, Regina Adams (Chris), Thomas Leonard (Margaret), Dawn Schneider (A.J.), Scott Leonard (Kelli), Shawn Reynolds and John Huer, 16 great-grandchildren and 9 great-great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents Fred and Pauline Blackledge, wife: Helen Iris Blackledge of 61 years, several brothers & sisters and step-sons; Kenneth Marvin Howard and Steven Kaywood Howard.
