

Russell was born in Penrod, KY to Andrew and Edith McElwain July 3, 1936. He worked in industrial maintenance at RCA/BMG for 43 years. After retirement, Russell worked part time for Sharp Parts for 9 years.
Russell enjoyed watching his family participate in their various activities. He was a car enthusiast and would spend hours in his garage listening to classic country music. He was a major sports fan, especially following UK basketball, Colts football, and the LA Dodgers. One of his greatest passions in life was a love of both playing and coaching softball. Getting to see many parts of the country and making lifelong friends, he was active in the sport until his early 80s.
Russell is preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Edith McElwain, siblings, Doris (Jimmy) Forgy, Donald (Lois) McElwain, and children, Lora McElwain, and Justin McElwain.
Russell is survived by his wife of 61 years, Frances McElwain, children, Russell Scott (Kathy) McElwain, Robin (Kevin) McQuitty, daughter in law, Amy McElwain, and his brother, Benny (Marilyn) McElwain.
Russell was blessed with 10 grandchildren, Kristin (Matt) Miller, Ryan (Ali) McElwain, Daulton (Madison) McQuitty, Brayden (Aly) McQuitty, Logan (Amiya) McElwain, Olivia McElwain, Landon McQuitty, Ean McElwain, Camryn McQuitty, and Ruthie McElwain. He was proud of his 7 great grandchildren, Emmett Miller, Remy McElwain, Keegan McQuitty, Rhett McQuitty, Parker McQutty, Elaina McElwain, and Lawson McQuitty.
Visitation will be Monday, June 8th from 11-1, with services immediately after at Little and Sons Funeral Home, Stop 11 Road, Indianapolis. Burial will follow at Orchard Hill Cemetery, Wanamaker, IN.
Memorials may be given to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the Southside Animal Shelter, Indianapolis.
