IN THE CARE OF
Feeney-Hornak Keystone Mortuary
Ruth Gore Yacko, age 70, of Indianapolis, Indiana passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, May 29, 2024. Ruth was born on June 7, 1953 in Indianapolis, Indiana, the third of five children, of James H. Gore and Ruth Marie (Lehnhard) Gore. Ruth graduated from Ladywood High School in 1971 and cum laude from Purdue University with a bachelor’s degree in Sociology and Community Health in 1975. In 1977, Ruth married Dr. Michael S. Yacko, and they enjoyed 47 happy years of marriage.
Ruth never met a problem she couldn’t solve, a party she couldn’t host, or a stranger. She was quick to share her lovely smile, easy laugh, and anything else she had if it might help. Truly someone who would give the shirt off her back, she earned the nickname “Give-away Ru” from friends and family. Ruth was also strong with a commanding presence so her family lovingly referred to her as “Sarge.”
Ruth was the heart of her home and family, always there to offer support, advice, and love to her husband, children Amy, Michael (Anne), and Matt (Laura), and beloved granddaughter, Alice. She was always proud of her family, and “Mom” and “Grandma” were her favorite nicknames.
Ruth was a cherished member of the community, giving of her time to the American Cancer Society, Scouting America, the Sargent Road Association, and St. Matthew School.
Ruth is preceded in death by her parents, sister Janie, niece Melissa, and nephew Pete. She is survived by her husband, children, granddaughter, siblings Donna (Ben) Gore Olsen, James (Robin) Harold Gore, Jr., Robert “Guy” (Brenda) Gore, and many nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Visitation will be held Saturday, June 8, 2024 from 10:00am to 12:00pm at Our Lady of Peace Cemetery Chapel, 9001 Haverstick Rd, Indianapolis, Indiana 46240. A mass is to follow. Ruth will be laid to rest at Our Lady of Peace Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Matthew Parish and School to support Scouting America Troop 443.
