Sally (Meeks) was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa on February 4, 1950. Daughter of Buel and Rosemary (Victorine) Meeks. She graduated from Jefferson High School in Cedar Rapids and the University of Iowa in Iowa City.
She met James “Jim” Johnson at the University and they married on August 3, 1972. They immediately changed both last names to Meeks-Johnson as a sign of their enduring partnership. They were married 50 years.
She was a voracious reader of mystery books and a crossword puzzle fanatic. Her passion for solving puzzles extended to piecing together her families genealogy—pouring over old documents and visiting numerous old courthouses and graveyards. She passed her love of reading on to her children, was active in the community as a Girl Scout leader and Roncalli school board member, and always kept a tidy house, with a place for everything and everything in its place. She loved to travel, visiting 48 of the 50 states, Canada (several times), Mexico, Italy, and the Bahamas.
Survivors include her husband, James Meeks-Johnson; three sons, Jaysin Meeks-Johnson (Rue) of Adams, MA, Elia Meeks-Johnson (Diana) of Portland, OR, and T.J. Meeks-Johnson of Marshalltown, IA; three daughters, Rachel Meeks-Johnson of Portland OR, Heather Meeks-Johnson of Bloomington, IN, and Amanda Meeks-Johnson of Marion, IN; six grandchildren, Mason, Caleb, Victor, Vivian, Violette, and Ellie; two brothers, Bill Meeks (Teri) of Phoenix, AZ, and Roger Meeks (Jan) of Sioux Falls, SD; two sisters, Debra Gawne (Jim) of Phoenix, AZ, and Theresa Meeks-Mosley (Ray) of Iowa City, IA.
She was preceded in death by her son Micah Meeks-Johnson and her sister Barbara (Meeks) Fuller.
