Sammy brought curiosity, exploration, love, and authenticity into our lives. In her short twenty years she was brave, thoughtful, funny, smart, tender and stubborn in the most meaningful ways. She cared deeply about her people, nature, animals, facts, and was committed to helping society's most vulnerable.
Sammy found solace outside experiencing nature. She enjoyed looking for butterflies, relaxing on porches, growing native flowers or taking photographs at local parks. She was often found creating art, listening to records, building Star Wars Legos, playing Magic the Gathering, thrifting, and finding a deal on Facebook Marketplace. She found joy eating sushi, playing Minecraft, mountain biking and conquering anything that could be climbed. She was drawn to the thrill of being somewhere most people would never think to go-including boulders, cliffs, towers and mountains.
She loved her cats, Mango, Pickles, Kimchi, Scar, and Kitty, and the comfort and snuggles they brought into her life. She also loved playing games, especially with her little brothers.
Sammy is survived by her parents, Luke and Katie Leising; her siblings, LJ, Henry, and Fritz; her grandparents, Terrel Gagermeier and Ron Leising, She had many aunts, uncles, cousins, and extended family members who loved her. She was preceded in death by her grandparents Kathy Leising, David Gagermeier and her cousin Nicolai Welsch.
We loved Sammy. We supported Sammy. We are grateful for the time we had with her and for all the people Sammy touched along the way. We are grieving her loss one step at a time and honoring her memory.
