Obituary of Samuel Hayes II
Samuel Hayes II was born on November 26, 1949, in Stonewall, Mississippi to Samuel Hayes Sr. (Katherine) and Robbie Jean Darby Freeman and was the 2nd child of 9 children. Preceded in death by parents Robbie Jean Darby Freeman, Samuel and Katherine Hayes, brother, Timothy Hayes, Sister Brenda Davis, daughters, Shavonne Tewells and Monique Hayes. Sam professed his life to Christ and was baptized at a very young age and before his passing he recommitted his life to Christ. Sam graduated from Shirley Owens Vocational High School in 1967 which was located in Quitman Mississippi, where he voted himself the most popular boy, best dancer and the most athletic. Sam served his country in the United States Army Infantry Division from 1969 through 1972. After leaving the service he worked at McQuade Motors as a mechanic before moving to AM General a military and commercial automotive manufacturer where he retired in the 70’s. After retirement he worked construction with his brother James. Sam met and married Vera Clark in Indianapolis, Indiana and to this union came daughters Katrina and Monique, and from a previously relationship he had Shavonne. He also assisted in raising Yolanda. Sam was affectionately known as Junior, Sammy, or Sammy Jr, but to family and friends, he would greet everyone with this saying “my name is Sam I Am, I do not eat green eggs or ham”. He loved music and singing along to all his favorite songs. He loved playing cards and dominos, with his family and friends. He enjoyed making people smile and laugh, wherever he was and whomever he was with. Sam departed this earth on July 2, 2024, at the age of 74 and those left to cherish his memory is his daughters Yolanda (Eddie) Phelps and Katrina (Aaron) Altstadt, grandchildren, great grandchildren, sisters: Linda Glass, Delois Adair, Bettie Hayes, Joyce (David) Bacon, and Karen (James) Corbin: brothers James Stoudemire and Lawrence (Debra) Hayes and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family, and friends. A memorial gathering for Samuel will be held Wednesday, July 10, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Crown Hill Funeral Home & Cemetery, 700 W. 38th St., Indianapolis, Indiana 46208, followed by a Celebration of Life at 11:00 AM.
