

Shabaka Jamal Miller, a gifted artist, devoted son, beloved brother, nephew, cousin, and loyal friend, passed away on March 18, 2025, at the age of 43. Born on November 19, 1981, in Indianapolis, IN, to Eiko Miller Byers and Donald Andrew Miller II. Shabaka spent most of his life in Columbia, MD, where he was raised by his father—two peas in a pod.
Shabaka’s warmth, creativity, and positive energy will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. His legacy as an artist, athlete, and devoted family member will continue to live on in the hearts of those he touched.

Shabaka (reinged ca. 712- ca. 696 B.C) was a Nubian king who established the Twenty-fifth Dynasty in Lower Egypt and thus became the first of the “Ethiopian” pharaohs. Shabaka succeeded his brother Piankhi as ruler of the Nubian kingdom of Kush in what is now northern Sudan.
A celebration of life for Shabaka will be held Saturday, April 4th, 2025 at St John Baptist Church, 9055 Tamar Drive, Columbia, Maryland 21045.
A Memorial Service for Shabaka will be held Saturday, April 19th, 2025 at Crown Hill Funeral Home & Cemetery, 700 W. 38th St., Indianapolis, Indiana 46208.
