Sharon Marie Hurley

Sharon Marie Hurley (Kavanagh), 81, Indianapolis, passed away on September 20, 2025. Sharon was born on August 20, 1944, to John F. and Lucille M. Kavanagh in Indianapolis. She was the third of eleven children and the oldest daughter. Sharon attended St. Joan of Arc School and graduated from St. Agnes Academy. She attended Marian College and trained as a nurse, graduating from St. Vincent's Hospital School of Nursing, Indianapolis, in 1965. In 1968, Sharon married Edward (Tim) Hurley, and they had four children together. Sharon enjoyed cooking and travelled extensively, visiting north Africa and Europe (several times), and making summer trips with her growing family to national parks throughout the United States. Sharon and her family lived in several places in the west, including California, Colorado, New Mexico, and Wyoming. She worked as a Registered Nurse for many years, retiring in 2008 from Rideout Memorial Hospital, Marysville, CA. In retirement, she returned to her childhood hometown of Indianapolis to be near her mother and siblings. Sharon was preceded in death by her brother, Dennis J. Kavanagh. She is survived by her loving children, Dennis J. (Lori), T. Brian (Christine Cignoli), John R. (Maeleen), and Catherine E. (William Little), her brothers John, Bernard (Marie), Richard (Esperanza), Kevin (Karen), and Thomas Kavanagh, her sisters Rita Campbell, Marianne (J. Dale) Whitcomb, Grace (Kevin) Buchheit, Maureen (John) Murphy, 7 grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, October 4, at 10 a.m. in St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 4217 Central Ave, Indianapolis, IN 46205. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, October 3, in Feeney-Hornak Keystone Mortuary 2126 E. 71st St, Indianapolis, IN 46220. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Sharon’s name to the Indianapolis Conference of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul (svdpindy.org) or the St. Augustine Home (littlesistersofthepoorindianapolis.org).
