Sonja Marie was born in Indianapolis, IN to John R. and Verniece Smith on September 7, 1941. She graduated from cosmetology school. She was married to Robert H. Johnson II. Sonja had 5 children.
Sonja previously worked at General Hospital as a secretary and Chevrolet. She was baptized at Olivet Missionary Baptist Church at an early age served as an usher and sang in the choir.
Sonja enjoyed word searches, soap, operas, talking, and doing hair.
Sonja is preceded in death by her parents, son John Chatman, daughter-in-law Cindy Chatman, son-in-law Melvin May, and grandchildren; James Chatman II, Cameron Baker, Grandson Jordan Chapman, and Alex May Jr.
Sonja is survived by children; Kimberley Cameron, Sandra Johnson-May (Nicholas), Tammy May, James Chatman Jr. (Christie), Sister; Jeanetta Davis, and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, family and friends.
