Obituary of Stephen Cutler "Steve" Collins
Stephen Cutler “Steve” Collins, 76, of Avon, IN, passed away Thursday, October 11, 2018. Steve was born February 24, 1942 in Indianapolis to Fred and Leona (Cutler) Collins. He is preceded in death by his parents and his son, Britton Cutler Collins. Steve was proud to be from Carroll County, specifically Flora, IN, where he spent his early years. Steve worked for the FAA for 38 years, retiring as an Operations Manager at the Indianapolis Air Route Traffic Control Center. He worked in several locations, including Puerto Rico, where he met Luisa, his wife of 44 years. Steve’s niece, Tammy, named the UNCKL intersection on the Darby 6 Arrival to SDF in recognition of his service. Although Steve may not have been perfect, he loved Luisa letting her know daily, “Luisa, I love you.” He was also a hit with his neighbors, enjoyed history, reading, his crosswords, weekly breakfast with fellow retirees, golfing, and traveling. Most importantly, Steve enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Steve liked to stir the pot, but we hope he will be remembered as a simple, honest, unassuming, no BS kind-of-man. Steve is survived by Luisa; daughters, Misti Christian (Jim), Alexandra Wells (Ryan), Mercedes Collins; grandchildren, Lacey Christian, Britton, Savannah, and Lillianna Wells; brothers, Fred, Joe, and Kevin Collins. A celebration of Steve’s life will be held at a later date, and eventually he will be laid to rest next to his son and parents at Maple Lawn Cemetery in Flora, Indiana.
