Born March 30, 1951, in Traverse City, Michigan, she was the daughter of Ralph and Mary Meyer, who preceded her in death and whom she adored. Susan was a decorated patriot, dedicating 27 years to service in the Army where she rose to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in a time where the armed forces were not fully open to women. Following retirement in 2003, she continued her service to the Army as a civilian working in the Colonel's Management Office until she retired in 2020.
Susan was known for her sharp wit, generous spirit, and humor balanced with a touch of stubbornness. To know her was to love her. Her life was marked by the deep connections she forged with family she leaves behind; particularly her nieces and nephews, Amy Merrill, Kellie Haacker, Adam Greer and Sarah Batipps, whom she treated as she would her own children, and her sister, Maureen Greer and brother-in-law Tom who provided such loving care to her always, but especially through her illness. She is also survived by her brother, R. Christopher Meyer, her aunt, Sharon (Norman) Cure, and many cousins, great nieces and nephews who all loved her and will miss her dearly. Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her.
Susan’s life will be commemorated through private services. Supporting veterans was a cause close to her heart, in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
