Susie Mary Hancock was born July 7, 1929 in Indianapolis, Indiana to the late Mr. Edward Hancock and Mrs. Helen Miller Hancock Brown. Susie professed her love for and dedication to Christ at an early age being baptized at Christ Temple.
She attended grade school at School #26 and high school at Crispus Attucks in Indianapolis, IN. She retired from Larue Carter Hospital after 40 years of dedicated service. As she was full of life, upon retirement, she went on to work at NIFS fitness center and a retirement home. She was very active and enjoyed spending time with her social club playing Bingo, shopping, and engaging in various activities at the Flanner House. “Grandma Susie”, as she was affectionately known, especially enjoyed playing cards with her family. Most of her adult life, she was a devoted caregiver for her late daughter, Michelle Suzette and you could find her by her bedside.
Susie was a faithful member of Pleasant Union Baptist Church where she organized a drill team that she led for several years.
When she grew tired, she found relief in her faith in the Heavenly Father. On April 4, 2023, in the late evening the gates of Heaven swung open and received her home. Many entered Heaven’s gates before her. She is welcomed with widespread arms by her parents, grandparents, sisters; Ann Shirley, Dorothy Sullivan, and Betty Wright and daughter, Michelle Suzette Barker. Susie leaves to cherish her memory her son Clarence Sherrod, daughter in law Erma Sherrod, grandchildren Cary Montgomery and Candace Sabino (Derek), great grandchildren Darien Sabino (Jamila), Lauren Montgomery, Courtland Sabino, Dru Sabino, and special friends, Connie Marie and Mae Carolyn, and a host of other friends and relatives.
