Suzie Cronin was the most charming, loving, beautiful and kind mother, mother in-law, grandmother, sister, aunt, chef, teacher, counselor and friend anyone could wish for. She had a keen sense of design, an infectious laugh, wonderful sense of humor, a love of people, and was a whole lot of fun!
Suzie grew up in Huntington Indiana, the youngest of four sisters. Her parents, Zada Schoch Casey and Stanley McClure Casey were a Registered Nurse and small-town MD respectively, whose office was in the family home.
Suzie graduated from Huntington High School and was a Delta Gamma at Indiana University. She was just short of graduation credits her senior year when she married Robert P. Cronin at Lake Wawasee in 1954, moved to his hometown of Hartford City, Indiana and began raising five children born within eight years of each other.
When the Cronin family moved to Indianapolis in 1966, she became active in the Children's Bureau, volunteering in her children's schools, and running a busy household. Once her kids were grown, she enrolled at IUPUI to finish her BS, then studied education and received her M.Ed. She began teaching preschool at The Children's Corner for eight years where she was much loved. She also worked several years at the Accent Shop and was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church and the Propylaeum.
Suzie always enjoyed the company of family and friends. She loved her summers at Lake Wawasee where she was near her parents, in-laws, her three Casey sisters, her grandchildren when visiting, and many dear friends. She looked forward to visiting her young adult children and treating them to special restaurants where they lived in New York, California and New Jersey before some began to move back to Indiana. She liked trying all the new local restaurants, IU alumni trips, traveling with YPO groups and Ambassadair, plus swimming laps at the Natatorium. Always proud of her Hoosier heritage, she was an avid fan of IU basketball and the Indiana Pacers.
Suzie is survived by her children Casey M. Cronin (Betsy) Indianapolis, David S. Cronin (Mora) St. Helena CA, Nancy S. Cronin Carmel, and Kathryn A. Cronin (Brad Bovee) Indianapolis, grandchildren Niall W. Cronin and Aidan J. Cronin Brooklyn NY, Dana H. Cronin Oakland CA, Aaron M. Cronin Denver CO, and Benjamin C. Singleton Carmel.
She was predeceased by her parents, her son James R. Cronin, grandson Brendan P. Cronin, and her former husband Robert P. Cronin.
Services will be private followed by burial at Crown Hill. Donations may be made to the Wawasee Area Conservancy Foundation, or a charity of your choice.
