Sylvia was the eldest of 4 four children born to this union: Edward Arthur Ferguson and Priscilla L. Powell (who preceded her in death) and Joanna Ferguson.
Sylvia was educated in Bowling Green Kentucky and graduated from State Street High School. Upon graduation from high school, Sylvia moved to Indianapolis, Indiana. In Indianapolis, Sylvia was employed at the Fort Benjamin Harrison Army Finance Center where she was a keypunch operator and also performed clerical duties. It was at Fort Benjamin Harrison that Sylvia met George Edward Turner. Sylvia married George E. Turner in 1958. George Turner preceded his wife in death in 2014. To this union 3 daughters were born: Deborah, Angela, and Renee. Sylvia was also a loving stepmom to Georgette, who
preceded her in death
Sylvia worked at the Finance Center until retirement 1994. Sylvia also worked at L.S. Ayres Department Store until retirement and as a tutor and foster grandparent in the Indianapolis Public School education system. She worked at School #41 and #42.
Sylvia loved the Lord and her family. She introduced everyone to life at Mt Paran Baptist Church where she was an active and faithful member for more than 50 years.
Sylvia later continued her walk with the Lord at New Era Baptist Church. At her new church home she was diligently active and made lifelong friends.
Sylvia was the grandmother that made sure everyone was in attendance at church on Sundays growing up. When you came to her house on Saturday night you had to bring clothes for church. If you forgot - she kept some clothes at her house for you. She was also the chaperone to choir practice, vacation bible school and all youth functions her children and grandchildren were
involved in.
Sylvia S Turner departed this life Tuesday July 7, 2020 in Douglasville, Georgia after declining health. Sylvia was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, role model and friend. She will be greatly missed.
