Thelma Lou Atwater

Thelma Lou Smith Atwater was born to Charlie Smith and Mary Chappell Smith in Spring Hill TN on December 28, 1921. The family moved to Jackson, TN where she graduated from High school and Lane College, receiving her teaching certificate. Thelma met the love of her life, Emmett W. Atwater while in the 8th grade... Thelma is known for establishing lasting relationships. Thelma's marriage to Emmett in 1944 took place prior to their move to Evansville, IN where their 4 children were born. Their Christ-centered marriage lasted 73 wonderful years.Thelma became a member of the Church of Christ in Jackson, TN. Thelma dedicated 60 plus years of life in Evansville to being, a devoted wife, an exceptional mom, a shining light for Jesus.Thelma departed this life on Monday, April 9, 2018 at the blessed age of 96 years, 3 months and 12 days. Preceding her in death were her husband; parents; and brother, Ozell Smith.To cherish her memory, she leaves her son, Terry Atwater, Sr. (Sandra); 3 daughters Sandra Minor (James Sr.), Dr. Harolyn Torain (Stephen R.) and Aurore Johnson (Robert). She was also blessed with 7 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives and her Kingsley Terrace Church of Christand Line Street Church of Christ family.
