Vanessa was born on April 12, 1962 to Willie Turpin and Gracie Conwell in East Chicago Indiana.
Vanessa received her K-12 education in the East Chicago Public Schools system.
Vanessa remained in the Lake County area while working in Chicago Illinois at Information Resources, Inc. It was during this time that she was introduced to Mark who would later become her husband. The two were married on February 14 2004, and enjoyed many years filled with traveling to many exciting destinations with their four children, Jaleel, Aaron, LaToya and Ladarion.
After graduating, she went on to study English at Ball State University in Muncie, IN where she earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree. Later she graduated from Indiana University with a Masters Degree in Library Sciences. Following her studies in Bloomington, IN she was employed as a Librarian by the Indianapolis Public Library. Before retiring, due to health reasons, she had been promoted to the position of Library Manager.
In December 2021, Vanessa was diagnosed with cancer. Even in the face of her own tragedy Vanessa remained a steadfast friend and confidant in the eyes of everyone who knew her. She brought much joy with her wherever she entered a room. As a devoted mother and librarian she created a nickname for everyone.
She had an amazing memory and told entertaining stories, sometimes with a hint of exaggeration. Even in her last few weeks, she told stories from throughout her life, and funny situations that occurred from her first medical experience.
She found immense pleasure in reading manga, watching Anime, and in sharing books with her children. Especially memorable are family trips to Chicago for Garret’s Popcorn, Chicago Dogs and Harold’s Chicken.
Vanessa leaves to cherish her memory four adult adoring children, Jaleel M. Jamerson, Aaron L. Jamerson, LaToya M. Powell and Ladarion L. Jamerson, - one Godson - Kenneth W. Floyd. One uncle Donald Noble, two cousins - Mark Jelks and family, NaShay Carpenter and family, aunt Fredonia Wiley, sister-in-law Rhonda Long and family, her best friend that was like a sister to her Riko Kivela and countless cousins, friends, colleagues and acquaintances and the most life-changing partner, caretaker, confidant, and friend she could have asked for…her husband Mark.
