Velma Jean Shobe

Velma Jean Shobe was a devoted and loving mother, Grandmother, sister and was also loved by so many. Velma’s race began May 25th, 1942 in Indianapolis,IN to Leroy and Mary Nowlin. She attended Indianapolis Public Schools. At an early age she accepted Christ and became a member at Carter Memorial Baptist Church, where she loved praising the Lord. She married Mauro Shobe in 1973 to that union a baby girl was born Tammika Shobe.

She graduated from Marion College as a Q.M.A and worked at ACME Health Services for 20 years. She retired in 2012. Velma finished her race well and saw her lord and savior, Jesus Christ face to face on February 17th, 2025.

Preceding her in death are her parents Leroy & Mary, ex-husband Mauro Shobe, and brother Lloyd Nowlin.

Velma is survived by her sons James (Carol) Nowlin, Allen Bailey, Bruce Jackson, her daughters Loraine Hill, Diana Taylor, Sherry (Trent) Watts, and Tammika Shobe, her brother Donald Nowlin, sister Gaynelle Nowlin Howard, as well as 15 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and 3 great great grandchildren. She also leaves to cherish her memory numerous nieces and nephews, cousins and many friends, along with her church family.

A visitation for Velma will be held Saturday, March 1, 2025 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Carter Memorial Missionary Baptist Church, 853 W Roache Street, Indianapolis, IN 46208, followed by a Celebration of Life at 12:00 PM.
