VERNON received his primary education through the Southport Elementary Schools and graduated from George Washington High School. Later, he became employed at Extended Stay America Hotel.
VERNON spent his free time enjoying various activities such as: playing cards, drawing, playing video games, watching movies, traveling, and going fishing. He also enjoyed cooking and creating his own dishes with his personal touch. He deeply loved his family and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Vernon had a great smile, with a very charismatic personality. He loved to laugh and he acted goofy to make others laugh.
VERNON JOSEPH AKERS, III passed away on Tuesday, February 20, 2024. He is gone too soon; at just 48 years of age. We were blessed to share in the seasons of Vernon’s life as he made a difference in the lives he touched. He will live on in the hearts and minds of the ones who knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by his father, Vernon Joseph Akers, II; mother, Frances Galbreath; grandfather, Robert RW Galbreath; and grandmother, Mary Galbreath.
He leaves precious memories to be cherished by his son, Dontae Akers; daughter, Nevaeh Akers; two
brothers, Julius Hagan, and Julian Hagan; three sisters, Shawna Akers Perry (Cameron Perry), Trena
Akers, and Julie Hagan; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A visitation for Vernon will be held Tuesday, March 5, 2024 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Williams & Bluitt Funeral Home Peoples' Chapel, 5252 East 38th Street, Indianapolis, Indiana, followed by a celebration of life at 12:00 PM.
