
Vernon received his primary and secondary education in the D. C. Public Schools and graduated from Phelps Vocational High School in Washington, D. C.
On April 18, 1957, Vernon was inducted into the United Stated Air Force where he gladly served his country. Following his service, he was honorably discharged on October 26. 1962.
Vernon was employed at the Radisson Hotel and Hyatt Regency Hotels in downtown Indianapolis during his final years of employment.
Vernon enjoyed, loved and lived life. He was very fond of western movies and Family Feud. Vernon was a very humble, caring, thoughtful and considerate individual. He was kind and generous to a fault, very dependable and loved helping others. He enjoyed the camaraderie of his family and friends that he met throughout life. He enjoyed playing bingo, spades, checkers and solitaire with his friends. He attended worship services that were provided by several Indianapolis churches visiting his residence.
Vernon departed this life on Thursday, November 7, 2018 at the age of eighty-one years. He was preceded in death by his only son, Vernon L Henderson, Jr.. his mother, Emma J. Heard, father Tommie Henderson and his step-father, Luther Heard. He leaves to cherish his memory his aunt, Virginia Stewart, Indianapolis, Indiana and uncle Clayborn L. Miller, Clarksville, Tennessee and a host of other relatives and friends.
