Veronica Hibbler

Veronica Hibbler passed away October 20, 2019. She was born November 1, 1962 in Bronx, NY to Robert and Linda Maxwell. Her family moved to Indianapolis when she was 4 years old and she was a lifelong area resident. An excellent student, she was valedictorian of Broad Ripple High School Class of 1981 and received a Richard Luger scholarship. First attending Ball State University, then Indiana University-Indianapolis, graduating with a BS in Accounting in 1985. After a few years of accounting at Defense Finance Accounting Service (DFAS) she wanted a new challenge and went part-time to IU Law School-Indianapolis, graduating with Doctor of Jurisprudence in 1993. After passing the bar she worked for the State of Indiana, working her way up to Attorney General Section Chief of Unclaimed Property and Board of Health Chief Legal Counsel. She returned to DFAS for a total of 29 years in various positions including General Counsel Attorney, Human Resources Labor & Employment Relations Specialist.

Veronica became an AKA during her years at Ball State and was a member of Alpha Mu grad chapter. Passionate about minority and women's issues, she was a member of National Association of Female Executives. Member of Eastern Star church and Indiana State Bar Association, Active in Good Standing with Indiana Supreme Court.

Along with her career she was devoted to her children, always encouraging them to be excellent in whatever they pursued. A sticky-note motto was easily visible in the kitchen, "Do what you gotta do so you can do what you wanna do". She was visible at their schools, making copies for teachers, involved in PTA committees for school standards and High Ability Planning. After both kids showed math aptitude she made sure they were in as many STEM (Science Technology Engineering Math) related programs as possible. She was very proud of both, one an engineer and the other a statistics major.

Above all else, Veronica was well known for her strong convictions. She loved dancing and wanted Bryce to teach her all the new dance moves. She was an amazing singer and used music to keep her spirits up. No one could beat her ability to find a sale, and she enjoyed shopping and walking through the mall on the weekends with her sister Annamarie.

She is survived by her parents, Robert and Linda Maxwell (Boykin), Sister Annamarie Maxwell, Husband Ranya (Ron) Hibbler, Children Brianna and Bryce Hibbler, a large number of Aunts, Uncles, Nieces, Nephews, and Cousins.
