I’ve known Viktor since he was 5 years old.  I will always remember him for his laugh. He had the best laugh. He was happiest when he made you laugh. He was special. He was a dedicated teacher and a  loving family man. He loved just being with his dear wife and  sweet boys. Viktor’s passing is heartbreaking. He was a light in this dark world. My name is Antonia Atilade, and I was one of Mr. Rodriguez’s former students. I want to send my deepest condolences to his family during this difficult time. Mr. Rodriguez was a very kind person, but he also didn’t let anything slide. He was always there to keep me on the right track and make sure I stayed out of trouble. I’ll always remember the impact he had on me, even in the moments when I may not have appreciated it at the time. I was actually planning to visit him at Sunnyside during Field Day, but unfortunately, I found out about his passing from another one of his former homeroom students. It’s so heartbreaking to realize how quickly time goes by and how we sometimes don’t realize how important someone is until we no longer have the chance to tell them. If I could go back, I would take back every moment when I was rude or disrespectful. I truly regret those moments, and I’m deeply sorry that I didn’t always show him the appreciation he deserved while I had the chance. I just want to say that I am truly and dearly sorry to the entire Rodriguez family. My heart goes out to all of you. You did not deserve to have to experience this kind of loss. Mr. Rodriguez will always be remembered by the students he taught and the lives he touched. May he rest peacefully. ❤️

As a union advocate, Viktor was never not advocating for his colleagues to create the best conditions for students and educators. His calm presence was always welcomed. I loved seeing how much Viktor enjoyed his friends and family through FB posts. Viktor’s passing has sent ripples through every school community Viktor was a part of. I treasure my time with Viktor as a union brother.

I am devastated that my friend Viktor, of 27 years , has left this life.  Viktor was so very funny and witty. He always had everyone laughing. Sadly, the years pass so quickly and everybody gets busy with life. I haven’t seen Viktor in years. However, I was blessed that he called me in July to catch up  on his life and mine. He was so excited to be an abuelo. . He was so looking forward to the cruise that he was going on with his family. Viktor, eternal rest grant unto you and may the perpetual light shine upon you! I will miss you my friend.

One of the hardest things for me to accept is how quickly everything changed. One moment, life was moving forward as it always had, and then suddenly we were confronted with the reality that our time with you was much shorter than any of us could have imagined. There were conversations I thought we still had time to have, places I thought we would still go, family gatherings I assumed you would attend, jokes I thought we would hear again, and years I believed were still ahead of us.

That is the painful lesson of losing someone you love: tomorrow is never promised.

So I choose to be grateful. Grateful that I had 52 years with you. Grateful for the childhood memories. Grateful for the laughter. Grateful for the family celebrations. Grateful that my children knew you as their “Uncle Viktor”. Grateful that you found MaryAlice, your partner and best friend. Grateful for the thousands of students who had the opportunity to know you as “Mr. Rodriguez”. And most of all, grateful that I got to call you my brother. There are things I wish I could say to you one more time. There are conversations I wish we could finish. I wish we had one more family gathering, one more laugh, one more opportunity to simply sit together as brothers. But until we meet again, I will carry you with me. Your story did not end on September 12, 2026. It continues through MaryAlice, your boys, your grandchild, your brother Albert, your nieces and nephews, your students, your colleagues, your friends, students, and every person whose life was changed because of you. Rest peacefully. You were loved. You are loved. And, you will never be forgotten.

Rest in peace, Viktor. You were a better friend to me than I deserved. Cancer took an incredible soul, and I am struggling to find the words. Viktor was always there for me, even during times when I pulled away. He never held a grudge; he just kept showing up with unconditional kindness. I will miss him deeply. 🕊️

I am absolutely devastated by this. I grew up with Viktor and all of the boys. Viktor was like a second dad to me growing up. He would help me with my math homework, and I remember all of the adventures our families spent together. He was funny, kind, and a great person overall. My heart goes out to Mary Alice, Erik, Tyler, Braden, Alek and Zaul.

Viktor was my cousin; however, he was more like a younger brother.  I was his godmother, but I wouldn’t let him call me Madrina. I remember all the great times we had together and how he loved to be near his family. He always made the effort to come up and visit, and he always called to talk to my mom, his Titi, who he called Madrina. Viktor grew up with challenges, experiencing surgeries for his vision at a young age along with his hearing, but you never heard him complain. His life was all about his family and his students. Viktor touched many lives and he lived life to the fullest. Even though he was a Cubs/Colts fan, we both bleed cream and crimson “GO IU." Viktor was a proud man, he loved his Puerto Rican heritage and of course, his Snoopy.
Hearing that he was diagnosed with Stage 4 pancreatic cancer was devastating to all of us. Why? Why Him?  Not Viktor! is all I could say and think. I couldn’t discuss it with anyone without breaking down. The last text I had with him was the day they put in his Port-a-Cath. He was ready to start the fight, and the battle line was drawn. “I’ll see in 2 weeks, I have a State meeting on the 25th in Indy”, was my message. His response: I look forward to seeing you that weekend, I love you Yvonne. I love you too Viktor, I love you today, I’ll love you tomorrow and I’ll love you forever. 
Viktor was loved by many; and he loved right back. His wife, his sons, his daughter-in-law, his granddaughter, all of us. We mourn him because of who he was and what he meant to us. We will never know why? You see, the script was already written. He wasn’t alone in his final moments. He was able to celebrate his last birthday with the ones he loved, and he was surrounded by love the night he left us. 
So, we will always remember you, your laughter, all the good times, and you will not be forgotten. The laughs we’ve had and even the tears we’ve shed.
We love you Viktor, we love you today, we’ll love you tomorrow and we’ll love you forever.

I will forever lament the passing of my Tio at such an early age, but I am comforted in the knowledge that he did not suffer for "If one member suffers, all suffer together; if one member is honored, all rejoice together."

Tio Viktor was always a delightful presence at all of our family functions, where he would bring the fun, positivity, and occasional chisme. These past few years have been serendipitous in allowing my sister and me to meet up with Tio Viktor in Philadelphia, where his second-eldest son, Tyler, relocated and started his family. We were able to witness Tio Viktor in his element, dancing nonstop at Tyler and Camrie's wedding two years ago, a memory I will always hold dear to my heart.
