Virginia Lee Jinks passed away peacefully, at home, on July 23, 2026 surrounded by loved ones. “Ginny” was 88 years old and gave, every part of her life, her all. She was a shining star and made life better for everyone in her world.
Born in Evansville, IN to Robert M. Sly and Edith E. Sutherland Sly. Virginia graduated from Bosse High School in 1955, Indiana University in 1959, and her Master of Education from Butler University. Virginia taught 8th Grade English and later, loved her work as a Realtor for F.C. Tucker. (President’s Club) Virginia was a member of the Pi Beta Phi Sorority (President), an Indiana University Cheerleader and President of the Indiana University Foundation. She was a devoted member of Naples Gathering Church, in Naples, Florida.
Virginia was active in neighborhood bridge clubs, “gourmet" supper club, loved to shop, and exercise with long walks and a one-mile swim. Virginia made friends and family welcome in her home. She was especially known for “buckeye” cookies, cheesecake and of course Dairy Queen hot fudge on it all!
Virginia is survived by her two children Julie Jinks Dowd and Jeffrey James Jinks, (Gina), sister Barbara Smothers, sister-in-law Jeanette Horrall, grandsons Daniel Dowd, Zachary Dowd, Sampson Jinks, Walker Jinks, and great grandson Aiden MacKenzie Dowd. Ryan P. McGinley (Marlaina), Kelly M. McGinley, Timothy B. Hawkins, and granddaughters Stella M. Iaria, and Cecelia Hawkins. Niece, Stacey Schneider (Neal) and their children, nephew, Steve Baxter (Kathy) and their children, nephew Scott Horrall (Donna) and their children, and nephew Stephen Horrall. Extended family includes CeCe Harman and many more beloved extended family.
Visitation and Memorial service will be held at the Gothic Chapel at Crown Hill Cemetery on Saturday, August 22nd beginning at 12:30 PM. Immediately followed by a graveside tribute and time of fellowship in the Chapel. As Virginia prioritized family and friends, we invite you to join us in memory of Virginia L. Jinks.
