Zane was born in Mishawaka, Indiana on March 3, 1998, and moved with his family to Indianapolis at age 3. He graduated from Franklin Central High School, attended Herron School of Art + Design, and earned a welding certification from Ivy Tech. He worked at Viant Medical for nearly five years. As a problem-solver with meticulous attention to detail, he developed into an expert silkscreen technician.
Zane filled his life with a wide range of passions. Music was his heartbeat, whether spinning vinyl or playing guitar in his band. He was an avid skateboarder for many years, and as a gifted mechanic, could often be found under the hood of one of his cars, grease on his hands and a grin on his face. He loved the art of making things work — and making them better.
Intelligent and endlessly curious, Zane was always eager to dive into discussions about anything from the evolution of punk rock to the biology of cicadas. His enthusiasm for learning made him a captivating storyteller and thinker. He despised injustice, and from a young age looked out for those who were marginalized or needed a friend. Fiercely loyal, Zane will be remembered not just for what he loved, but for how he loved — with sincerity, humor, and a heart as big as his ideas.
While we are selfishly devastated that his time here was cut short, there is some comfort in the knowledge that Zane is at peace and surrounded by the love of Our Heavenly Father. He was simply too good for this Earth.
Zane is survived by his parents, Douglas and Jennifer Johnson; his little sister, Lydia Johnson (Ryan Forker); and grandparents James and Sheila Bierly, Stephanie (Ted) Stanley, and Sid Johnson (Francisco Monte). He also leaves behind many beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends — and his sweet kitten Mazzy.
