""BJ" Bobby Joe Byrer, 73, passed on September 23rd, 2019. BJ is survived by his wife of 48 years, Janet Byrer; two daughters Jennifer and Christine Byrer; mother, Myrtle Esteen; sister, Patti Lynne Wildman; brother, Mark Allen Byrer; and was preceded in death by his father, Rex Byrer.
BJ served his country as a Navy Medic during the Vietnam War. He was employed with UPS for 33 years as a delivery driver for the Town of Speedway. He gave back to Speedway by coaching girls and boys basketball as well as girls softball. BJ was a die-hard fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and Indianapolis Colts and enjoyed screaming at the television every time they were on. Upon retirement from UPS, he "worked" part-time in the cart barn with his buddies at the Brickyard Crossing Golf Course and for Plastic Recycling, Inc. He enjoyed spending time with friends bowling, playing in softball leagues, golfing, telling stories, and having a "couple of beers" with the boys. During the summer and fall, he spent many weekends at his lake house enjoying a good whiskey and cigar out by the bonfire or trying to catch fish (of which there were none, according to him). Winter months were enjoyed in Florida with days at the beach, playing poker, and socializing with "the village".
Visitation will be from 5:00 - 8:00 PM on Thursday, October 3rd at Crown Hill Funeral Home, 700 W. 38th Street, Indianapolis, IN 46208. Memorial service will be held on Friday, October 4th at 1:00 PM at the Crown Hill Cemetery Gothic Chapel.
