Sarah Evelyn Whigham, 94, went to her Heavenly home on Monday, December 30, 2019 in Jackson, MS. Visitation will be on Thursday, January 2, 2020 from 9:30 am to 11:00 am at Lakewood Funeral Home with a funeral service to follow. Interment will be at Lakewood Memorial Park.
Sarah was born in Jackson, MS in 1925 to the late Leon and Mary Glaze. She was a lifelong member of Parkway Baptist Church. When Parkway began in 1927, she was the first baby in the nursery. There were no beds for her, and she was put in a cardboard box for her bed in the church nursery. Most of her life was centered around her family and her Church family. She thoroughly enjoyed teaching the three year olds, and had a special relationship with her Sunday School class. Because of her faith in Christ, her family is certain they will meet again.
Sarah is preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. L.J. Glaze; husband, W. M. Whigham; a sister and a brother, who both passed away at a very young age before she was born. We know they have now met for the first time in Heaven. She is survived by her son, Bill Whigham; daughter, Mary Anne Whigham Richardson (William); grandchildren, Andrew and Edward and three great grandchildren, Prewitt, Graham and Liza.
In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to Parkway Baptist Church general fund or Gideon’s Bible’s.
