
Janice Howell Bedwell, 83, of Jackson, Alabama, died peacefully at her home, with family members and her hospice nurse at her side, on September 19, 2014. She was born August 14, 1931 in Winn, Alabama, and attended the one room schoolhouse in the New Prospect community. Mrs. Bedwell was a homemaker and talented seamstress known for her beautiful quilts. Examples of her craft are treasured by residents of southwest Alabama and family members. She was a member of Stave Creek Baptist church and the Order of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed reading and cooking for her family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Bedwell, and parents, Dave Howell and Esther McCloskey Howell. She is survived by two sisters, Joyce Wilson of Camden, Alabama and Jean Brunson of Thomasville, Alabama; son, Donnie Bedwell (Marilyn), daughter, Judy (Joe) Godfrey, of Mobile, Alabama, and daughter, Nita (Tim) Hoven, of Jackson, Alabama; five grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. Visitation will be at 1 PM, September 22, 2014 at Lathan Funeral Home in Jackson and funeral services will be held at 2 PM, September 22, 2014 at Lathan funeral home with Brother Holden Smith officiating. Interment will be at Trinity Memorial Gardens in Jackson. Active pall bearers will be Quincy Baros, Bill Ellis, Ricky Milstead, Thomas Schultz, Steve Shoultz, and Paul Thomas. Honorary pall bearers included Debbie Smith, Carolyn Frowner, Betty Jean Luker, Dr. Sid Crosby and members of the Stave Creek Baptist Church Senior Ladies Sunday school class.
