Alice Delancy Crawford passed away into the loving arms of Jesus on Sunday, January 07, 2024 in Kingwood, TX. She was 91 years old. Alice was born on October 14, 1932 to John and Vera Delancy in Forest, Louisiana. Her 5 children and 45 grand and great-grandchildren were the loves of her life. Alice loved her church and was a devout member of the Church of the Nazarene. Her greatest gift to her family was that of the love of Christ. She was truly the matriarch of her family and was deeply loved and respected. She prayed her family through good times and bad, illness, child birth, life changes, and more- on her knees before the Lord, until her knees gave out. She adored her grandchildren, who fondly recall her saying that she loved them “a bushel and a peck and hug around the neck.” Some of her grandchildren’s most cherished memories include holidays at their Mamaw and Papaw’s home filled with aunts, uncles, and cousins, while their Mamaw sat quietly appreciating the love and chaos. Many others will remember her for making the best ever fried chicken and chicken and dumplings. Alice worked for and retired as the JCPenney Personnel Supervisor in Jackson, MS after 35 years. The legacy she leaves her family is one of hard work, sacrifice, selfless ministry, and above all, love for and faith in Jesus Christ. Alice was truly a woman of both fierce determination and calming presence.
Alice is preceded in death by her husband, Grady Earl Crawford; her siblings, George Gilmore Delancy, Billy Ray Delancy, and Christine Delancy; and her parents, John and Vera Delancy. She is survived by her 5 children, Brenda Johnson, Jerry Wade Jr. (Sandy Wade), Terry Wade (Gina Wade), Cindy Wade, and Chris Wade Karns; her brother, Hilburn Eugene Delancy; and 16 grandchildren and 29 great and great-great grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Finn Williamson, Colin Williamson, Michael Williamson, Stephen Monteiro, Steve Paredo, Bradley Throckmorton; Honorary Pallbearers are Daniel Wade, Sean Johnson.
