

Mr. Shearer graduated from Cooks School of Electronics and held an FCC First Class Radio-Telephone License since 1949, and also completed Radio Communications Course of Motorola Training Institute in 1962.
He is a Unites States Marine Corp Veteran of World War II and the Korean War. Mr. Shearer joined the Jackson Police Department in 1950.During his law enforcement career, Mr. Shearer attended numerous classes and seminars regarding law enforcement including the Mississippi Law Enforcement Officers Institute, University of Mississippi and was a member of the Mississippi Law Enforcement Officers Association and the Tennessee-Mississippi Peace Officers Association. He retired in 1978 after a very honorable and commendable career at the rank of Deputy Chief.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Jimmie Frances Shearer; two sons, Steve Shearer and Mart Shearer; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and one on the way. As well as numerous other family and friends left to cherish his memory and legacy.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin and Emma Gilbert Shearer; two sisters and one grandson.
The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. Friday, May 19, 2017 at Lakewood Memorial Funeral Home where the service will begin at 3 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Mr. Shearer will be laid to rest in Lakewood Memorial Park.
