Tim was born on August 15, 1950, in Jackson, Mississippi, to Floid and Pauline Reid, who preceded him in death. In 1972 Tim began working at Western Electric and while working there he attended Hinds Community College, where he studied electronics and general studies. In 1977, he began his career with Delphi Packard Electric and completed his Tool & Die apprenticeship in March 1981. After retiring in 2007, he continued working with his hands at Wendy's Pancake Welding Shields until his cancer diagnosis.
Tim was known for his remarkable ability to fix, build, and improve just about anything. In 1984, he started a float that became a staple of Hal’s St. Paddy’s Parade in Jackson. He later created the iconic Frostop Mug Float, transforming the spinning mug from the former Frostop restaurant on Ellis Avenue into the beloved float still used today by the Krewe of Froth.
He loved being on the water and was always eager to try the latest water-skiing gadget or towable toy. He often recruited his nieces as willing test pilots for his latest purchase, teaching them to ski along the way. Later, he shared that same love of boating and the outdoors with his children and grandchildren.
Above all, Tim was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He never met a stranger and was always willing to lend a helping hand. His kindness, generosity, and easygoing nature touched countless lives, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Tim is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Cloie Lynn Reid; daughter, Leigh Ann Hawthorne (Dan); son, Jimmy Reid (Maria); grandchildren, Waverly Hawthorne and Booth Reid; brother, Sammee Reid (Polly); sister, Paulette Todd (Lewis); mother-in-law, Clois Minyard; sisters-in-laws, Diana Taylor (Kyle), Pam Minyard, Cathy O’Neal, and Missy Jones (Jeff); along with many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins.
