Mrs. Betty M. Speake

September 14, 1932April 27, 2021

Betty M. Speake, 88, passed away on April 27, 2021 at Baptist Hospital. Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 29 at Wynndale Baptist Church from 5:00 to 7:00 PM. Funeral services will be held at the church on Friday at 11:00 AM with a visitation one hour prior. A graveside service will follow at Terry City Cemetery.

Betty was born on September 14, 1932 in Pocahontas, MS. She graduated from Central High School (Jackson, MS) in 1950. She worked in accounting and administration with several businesses and the State of Mississippi, from which she retired on July 1, 1993.

After graduation she married Jerry Manning and they had two children, Jerri and Mark. Betty was left a young widow when he was killed in a car accident in 1955. In 1962 she married John B. Speake and they had two boys, Ben and Bobby. She loved God, her husband, children, grandchildren, her church (Wynndale Baptist) and her friends.

She is survived by her husband, John B Speake; children, Jerri Byrd (Mike), Mark Manning (Cathy), Ben Speake (Kathy), Bobby Speake (Kim); and four grandsons, Alan Manning, Mason Manning, John Henry Speake, and Asa Speake. She is also survived by her sister, Mary Sharp; brother-in-law, W.O. McMurtray; and a number of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Jerry Manning; parents, Lonnie and Juanita Murphy; brother, Don Murphy; and sister, Jean Woods.
